Our Style - Goju-ryu
Goju-ryu Karate is a traditional Okinawan martial art that blends hard (Go) and soft (Ju) techniques. It was developed in the early 20th century by Chojun Miyagi, who sought to create a system that balanced strength, efficiency, and adaptability.
The name “Goju-ryu” literally means “hard-soft style”, reflecting its unique combination of powerful strikes and circular, flowing movements.
About IOGKF (International Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation)
The International Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) is one of the world’s leading organisations dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional Goju-ryu Karate.
Founded in 1979 by Morio Higaonna, the IOGKF maintains a direct link to the teachings of Chojun Miyagi, ensuring that the art is passed on with authenticity and integrity.
Today, the IOGKF operates in over 60 countries, connecting students and instructors through a shared commitment to traditional Okinawan karate.
About AOGKF (Australian Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation)
The Australian Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation (AOGKF) is the official Australian branch of the International Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation.
It is dedicated to promoting and preserving traditional Goju-ryu Karate across Australia, maintaining the same high standards, curriculum, and values taught worldwide within the IOGKF.
Through the AOGKF, Australian students are directly connected to authentic Okinawan karate while training within a strong and supportive national network.
